Up late writing some music for my theory class. The stuff we learn in that class is kinda intense. Every composer that we learn about is important because they learned how to break the rules. When they broke the rules, their music became revolutionary. We are taught how to break the same rules, and achieve the same sounds. This is all well; however, there are not any more rules to break. Our modern society accepts almost any form of sound as music. This leaves no outlet for the composer to tweak the ear of society. Outstanding music is hardly recognized, and poor compositions shine through. Our increasing musical tolerance could be the demise of the modern composer.
Just a thought. . . .
